Wenger has long been linked with an interest in 20 year old midfielder Draxler though this is perhaps the first instance of a report claiming that the French boss would seek to shape the young talent into a striking option, a move that would clearly see the player become likely to be a potential addition to the Arsenal squad.

Draxler has already racked up 133 appearances for Schalke and clearly knows where the back of the net is, the midfielder scoring 13 goals in all competitions last term.

Julian Draxler is comfortable on the ball and a real threat in the final third and is seen by Wenger as a possible replacement for Theo Walcott, who is out for six months with a knee injury.

Perhaps a move to use Draxler in an striking role would be a means to an end, with the Bundesliga star perhaps being used in an attacking role in the short term though any move to sign the Schalke star will cost Arsenal a hefty sum with this source claiming the Gelsenkirchen side would demand the payment of a £40m release clause to land the starlet.

One imagines that Draxler would be open to a move to Arsenal, perhaps believing that his ambitions would be more easily realized at the Emirates Stadium than at the Veltins-Arena, such a move may become all the more tempting given the presence of national team colleagues Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil at the Premier League club.
