The Italian international has been linked with a move to the defending Premier League champions several times since the beginning of the summer, but the latest round of speculation has suggested that they are to step up their interest in the player during the current window.

The rumours only intensified on Sunday when it emerged that manager David Moyes had travelled to Italy at the weekend to watch Juventus take on Cagliari in their first Serie A game since the winter break.

It is believed that Marchisio was Moyes’ main target, though he also ran the rule over another long standing interest; defender Davide Astori.

Juventus have made it known that they are aware of the interest the 27-year-old has been generating recently, but they are hoping that he will opt to stay with his hometown club should a concrete offer be made for him in the near future.

General director Giuseppe Marotta told Radio Rai: “There is no problem with Marchisio. Claudio is a player who grew up in the Juventus youth teams and he loves the shirt.

“During a busy season it is inevitable that every player will have their lows, but everything is normal.”
