The midfield star’s future has been thrown into doubt at Upton Park after he has stalled on signing a new deal with the club and has subsequently been linked with a move to London rivals Fulham as a result.
The 20-year-old still has 18 months left to run on his current deal and wants to make a decision on his future as soon as possible.
Fulham coach Rene Meulensteen had previously worked with the England under-21 international having worked with him when the pair were at Manchester United together and has already had a £4m offer rejected for his services.
The Craven Cottage outfit are said to be preparing a new and improved offer as the Dutchman is keen to link up with him again, but they could face some significant competition as their interest has alerted City, and are interested in bringing him back to Manchester.
