New boss Sherwood is said to be looking to add at least two new faces to the squad during the January transfer window, but though he has been promised money to spend he has yet to make a move as of yet.

However, after meeting with chairman Daniel Levy last week he is now prepared to start making moves and will start with a bid for the Italian international striker Fabio Quagliarella.

The 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in Turin this season and reports in Italy have said that he has been given permission to move on this month.

Spurs have been monitoring his situation and believe that they will be able to bring him on board for as little as £4m, and have even gone as far as to send Franco Baldini over to Italy to prepare for talks.

Quagliarella was offered to Arsenal over the summer, but a move didn’t come to fruition, and he is said to be keen on securing a move away in order to boost his chances of making it into Italy’s World Cup squad.
