The Primeira Liga duo could be the latest FC Porto players to move on to join Europe’s ‘Elite’ as part of the Portuguese club’s successful transfer policy that has seen the likes of Radamel Falcao, Hulk, James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho leave in recent seasons.

French centre-back Mangala may be seen by Jose Mourinho as a long term successor for John Terry, though the Blues did also bring in Saint-Etienne teenager Kurt Zouma, but FC Porto are thought to be demanding a massive fee for the in-form defender.

Brazilian enforcer Fernando will be out of contract in the summer and would be available on a free transfer at the end of the season unless FC Porto can tie the 26 year old down to a new deal.

Again Mourinho has perhaps already dealt with the need for fresh defensive midfield additions by signing Nemanja Matic from Benfica last month.

Chelsea invested well in the January transfer market but perhaps surprisingly Manuel Pellegrini didn’t bring in any new additions last month.
