The former Sevilla and Barcelona man has just spent the past 18 months with Chinese club Dalian Aerbin, but put the feelers out for a return to Europe during the January transfer window.

And Brendan Rodgers was reportedly ready to bring him to Anfield as he was keen to add the 34-year-old to help provide some experienced guidance to his young squad.

A deal between the two parties had reportedly been close, according to Keita, but he insisted that he had no hesitation in breaking off the discussions with the Merseysiders as soon as he discovered Valencia’s interest.

“When we received the call from Valencia, talks with Liverpool were at a very advanced stage.

“But then I told my agent we were going to Valencia. I did not doubt for a second.

“When I came to play at Mestalla with Sevilla or Barcelona I suffered a lot to win, because this is a really big club with fantastic fans. That is why I opted to come here.”

Keita also revealed that he had offers from Dubai, Qatar and Turkey, but chose to pen a six month deal with Los Che with an option to extend for another 12 months at the end.

“It is important that this is clear. I am coming here from China. To sign for a year-and-a-half is a difficult thing for the club,” he added.

“I told them to relax, that I would sign for six months and if I have the right level we will all have time to continue. That is better for the club and for everyone.”
