Chelsea are reportedly set to sign PSG striker Edinson Cavani according to the Metro.

Jose Mourinho could well do with a prolific striker leading his Blues attack and wants to bring in the Uruguayan before this summer’s World Cup finals.

Chelsea will invest £50m in Cavani with Mourinho ready to sell Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku to help fund the move as the West London side continue to adopt a sensible spending strategy that will help the club to adhere to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play guidelines.

Mourinho signed Nemanja Matic, Kurt Zouma and Mohamed Salah last month but more than covered that outlay by selling Juan Mata and Kevin de Bruyne to Man United and Wolfsburg respectively.

Though Cavani has been scoring regularly since moving to the French capital he is apparently unsettled at the Parc des Princes and unhappy with his wide attacking role, with Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic used in the central striking role.

PSG paid £53m for Cavani last summer and the former Napoli man has scored 20 goals in all competitions thus far this season.

Chelsea’s striking trio, Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres, have scored just 11 of the club’s 48 Premier League goals this season.
