The Dutch international has expressed his disappointment at being consistently substituted during games and admits that he may be forced to go elsewhere if he cannot establish himself as a first team regular.

This season, the 27-year-old has featured three times as a substitute, including their recent 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The winger joined the club from Serie A side Juventus, where his electric pace caught the eye of the Bundesliga giants, and he penned a contract with the club until 2016, though he has admitted that he could very well leave the club before that deal expires.

Speaking to Kreiszeitung Syke, Elia said: “I am always unhappy when I am not playing matches from the start. Therefore I am well able to imagine leaving Werder Bremen, although at this point in time I am unable to make a comment on the issue.

“We will only be able to see what’s on at the end of the campaign. Either I am to stay on or Werder Bremen is selling me then.”
