The Italian struggled in his debut season at Anfield, managing just two goals in twenty appearances during the 2012/13 campaign.

But the 22-year-0ld has shown glimpses of class during his season-long loan spell at the Stadium of Light this term and has proved a big-game player, with goals in both Tyne-Wear derbies with Newcastle and in the Capital One Cup semi-final and final against Man United and Man City respectively.

Borini believes his knack of scoring important goals in big games proves he is made for a big team and he has hinted he would like another crack at succeeding at Anfield next season.

“That means I am made for a big team,” Borini is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“We will see what will happen until the end of the season, and try to beat the big teams and the small ones, and then let’s see in the summer.

“It was a great feeling scoring in the cup final. Two or three times what I normally feel for a goal.

“A great feeling, all emotions, especially against a big team when no one expected us to be in front against Manchester City at Wembley.”
