Cameroonian forward Samuel Eto’o could extend his contract beyond the end of this season at Chelsea, reports the Daily Star.

The striker, who recently turned 33, is in the latter stages of his career, but has still scored some important goals for Jose Mourinho’s side, most notably a hat-trick against Manchester United.

All in all, he’s scored nine for the Blues, but has rotated the starting spot with Fernando Torres.

The deal he signed to join Chelsea last summer only runs for 12 months, but the striker has hinted he will stay beyond its expiration.

“I am happy here [at Chelsea]. My age is not important,” Eto’o said.

“I work the same like Oscar or Eden Hazard. I have more experience and this is good for the team.”

Although he wants to stay, it’s unsure whether Mourinho will feel the need to extend Eto’o’s deal with Romelu Lukaku expected to return from a loan deal, and a new world-class striker targeted.

Ten strikers Chelsea could target in the summer!

The Portuguese boss has made no secret of his desire to recruit new attacking talent, so if Eto’o were to remain at Stamford bridge, it would likely be in a backup role. The likes of Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic have been heavily linked, and could make blockbuster moves to England in the summer.

Eto’o lacks the pace necessary to truly frighten defenders anymore, but if presented with chances in the penalty area, he’s instinctively lethal.
