Chelsea are leading the chase to sign La Liga hot-shot Diego Costa with the Stamford Bridge side willing to register a £40m bid for the 25 year old according to the Daily Mail.

Blues scouts will be in attendance on Wednesday evening as Atletico Madrid take on Granada with Costa looking to continue his fine season, with his form central to the Vicente Calderon outfit’s continued La Liga title challenge.

Costa has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season though may feel that he has achieved all he can at Atletico Madrid, who are certainly punching above their weight under boss Diego Simeone and of course there may be the small matter of a massive pay-rise that could tempt the Brazilian born Spanish international to consider a move to West London.

Jose Mourinho is urgently looking to land a prolific forward to lead his attack with Fernando Torres and Demba Ba failing to make an impact. Veteran Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o has done well in his debut season though his short term Chelsea deal comes to an end in the summer and the forward may well have fallen out with his Portuguese boss over comments he made regarding his ‘actual’ age.

Chelsea may look to use the aforementioned Torres as a bargaining chip as part of any deal, the former Atletico Madrid hero’s return may help take the edge off the sale of yet another of the club’s top performers.

One imagines Simeone would also be interested in capturing Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois on a permanent deal having seen the 21 year old keeper grow in stature during three successful seasons on loan to the Spanish capital side.
