The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League with now just one game of the campaign left to play and while the odds are still very much against Rodgers’s side being crowned champions on Sunday afternoon – they need rivals Manchester City to lose one of their two remaining league fixtures at home to either Aston Villa on Wednesday night or West Ham United on the weekend, while Liverpool must then also beat Newcastle United at home – the club have still enjoyed an unexpectedly fine campaign challenging at the top of the table nonetheless.

And now as a result the Reds’ American bosses across the Pond are set to hand Rodgers a four-year contract extension on his present deal which currently only runs until June 2015, with owner John W Henry said to be keen to tie the Northern Irishman down for the long term.
