Arsenal have launched a formal bid for Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria according to the Daily Express.

The Argentine winger is a player Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to retain, as does team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, but the former Benfica man has apparently made it clear he wants to leave.

The £32.5m rated 26 year old has just completed his fourth season in the Spanish capital and is being pursued by a number of clubs including Man City, AS Monaco, PSG, Man United and Juventus.

The slightly build wide-man finished last term as Real Madrid’s leading assist maker and made a total of 52 appearances in all competitions but is set to leave according to a source close to the player, who has stated:

“It is true that he is leaving because he wants to go.

“It is very likely that he will leave before the end of the World Cup in Brazil.”

Arsenal’s interest in Angel di Maria may call into the question the future of current wide attacking options such as Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski or Theo Walcott.

The north London side may feel that having successfully lured Mesut Ozil from the Spanish giants they will have a decent chance of tempting di Maria to follow suit.
