The young Sevilla star has been a long time target for Brendan Rodgers and the club had believed that a deal to bring him to Anfield had been close, only to see the potential switch hit the rocks and come to a stand still as Sevilla upped their asking price to £20m at the last minute.

That means that Rodgers has subsequently turned his attentions to Rodriguez instead.

Rodgers had shown an initial interest in the 21-year-old back in the January transfer window, but a concrete offer failed to materialise, however, he is ready to try again should the deal to land Moreno collapse completely in the coming days.

Rodriguez has been in impressive form this season, making 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and creating a further nine for his teammates.

He has continued that good form into the World Cup, too, laying on an assist for the side to overcome Ecuador late on during their first game of the tournament on Sunday.
