Newcastle United are preparing a move to capture Ajax playmaker Siem de Jong according to the Daily Mail.

The Ajax attacking midfielder is said to be available for a fee of around £6m and that’s a price the Magpies are ready to pay as Alan Pardew looks to sign a long term target.

De Jong, who’s brother Luuk spent half of last season on loan with last term, has already begun talks with the St James’ Park side and has told his Amsterdam employers that he wants to move to the Premier League.

Pardew will look to re-invest the £23m the north-east side received for Yohan Cabaye in January and will hope that de Jong can help fill the void left by the French international’s move to PSG.

The Swiss born Dutch international has represented Ajax since the age of 16 and has completed seven seasons in the first team set-up, making 244 appearances for the club and scoring 78 goals and having won four successive Eredivisie titles the 25 year old may well be ready for a fresh challenge.
