Newcastle United have officially confirmed the signing of Ajax playmaker Siem de Jong.

The flair player has put pen to paper on a six year deal and is a player Alan Pardew hopes sparks his Magpies side into life after a poor run of form in the second half of 2013/14.

The 25 year old has spoken of his desire to make the most of his opportunity to impress in the Premier League and of advice given by his brother Luuk, stating;

“It is great to have signed for Newcastle. It is a big club which my brother told me all about, so I already feel good here.

“I had been at Ajax a long time and wanted a new challenge in a new environment and a new country.

“Coming to Newcastle is a great opportunity and the chance to play for a club like this in the Premier League was one I could not turn down.

“I am looking forward to starting training and meeting my new teammates and hopefully we can have a successful season.”

The Swiss born Dutch international has represented Ajax since the age of 16 and has completed seven seasons in the first team set-up, making 244 appearances for the club and scoring 78 goals and having won four successive Eredivisie titles will no doubt be ready for a fresh challenge.
