Manchester United are prepared to shell out £40 million for 26-year old Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria, whose future at the Santiago Bernabeu is yet to decided, reports the Daily Star.
The deal would be the third of United’s expensive summer, having already splashed out £27m on Luke Shaw, and £28m on Ander Herrera.
The Red Devils’ offer, if true, could be very close to Real’s valuation of the Argentine, and we could well see the winger move to Old Trafford in the coming weeks. The fact the Red Devils are not competing in the Champions League however could be a major dampener to any potential deal going forward.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also believed to be interested in the speedy and versatile winger, who also excelled in a central midfield role for the Los Blancos last term. Man United’s bid though now makes them the favourites to land the former Benfica man, who feels undervalued and under threat at the Bernabeu following the signing of Welsh star Gareth Bale for a World record fee last summer.
Di Maria’s agent Jorge Mendes is reportedly working hard to make the deal to Old Trafford happen for the Argentine international, and we could see the transfer process speed up once Di Maria gets back from World Cup duty in Brazil.
