FC Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez appears to have chosen his next club and Liverpool will lose out as the Chilean looks set to join Arsenal, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The future of the 25-year-old has been in doubt for some time, with Barca willing to sell the attacker and several clubs in pursuit of the South American’s signature.

The Catalans value Sanchez at around £30m and with both the Reds and the Gunners willing to meet that price, it came simply down to the player’s preferred destination.

Brendan Rodgers was hoping that the Chile international could be used as a makeweight in the Luis Suarez deal, with the 27-year-old on the verge of completing a £75m switch to the Nou Camp.

The departure of Suarez will of course leave a huge gap in the Merseysiders’ attack and Rodgers viewed Sanchez as the ideal personnel to help ease the transition.

Yet despite the best efforts of the Northern Irishman the attacking ace has decided that the Emirates Stadium is better suited to him, with a desire to live in the English capital reported to be a key factor in the decision.

Sanchez impressed for his nation at the 2014 World Cup and after scoring 19 La Liga goals and providing 10 assists in 2013/14, it’s little wonder he is such a desired target for some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

For Rodgers though, his quest to replace Suarez and ensure his team maintain the form that saw them finish second in the Premier League last season continues.
