West Ham are reportedly close to completing the signing of Ecuardorian attacker Enner Valencia according to the Metro.

The east London side will pay £7.9m to Mexican side Pachuca and the 25 year old is set for a medical with the Premier League club this weekend.

Valencia is currently enjoying a great spell in Mexico, netting 18 goals in 23 appearances, and followed up that run of form by scoring all three of Ecuador’s World Cup goals and could well be tempted by a move to the Premier League.

Sam Allardyce’s side struggled for goals last term with the club’s record signing Andy Carroll scoring just twice all season so a move for a fresh striking option makes a great deal of sense.

The east London side managed just 40 Premier League goals last season and Allardyce will hope that the club’s owners trust the under-fire boss with a sizable transfer fund boost to help strengthen a squad that looked fairly light on effective attacking options last term.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce will look to strengthen his Upton Park squad this summer and having already brought in a number of summer signings including Argentine forward Mauro Zarate, Senegalese enforcer Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell and Diego Poyet from Championship sides Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic respectively.
