Manchester United’s new boss Louis Van Gaal wants to sign World Cup golden boot winner and Colombian superstar James Rodriguez, although the 23-year old prefers a move to Real Madrid, reports the Daily Express.

The Red Devils are said to be having plenty of cash in the bank as they recently struck a bumper £750 million kit deal with Adidas, and thus believe that they have the funds to make a move happen for the highly rated Monaco man.

The French club are demanding around £70 million for their starlet, and United want to make a bid of £63 million for the young forward, who can play in number of attacking positions.

Real Madrid too are interested in signing the youngster but they must first sell Argentine winger Angel Di Maria in order to make the Rodriguez deal happen. United are hoping to convince Rodriguez to move to Old Trafford before Real get to him, but the Los Blancos are still favourites as the player dreams of playing for them.
