Reina swaps England for Germany.

Liverpool have confirmed that goalkeeper Pepe Reina has joined Bayern Munich.

It brings to an end nine years at Anfield for the Spain international, although last season was spent on-loan with Napoli.

Reina joined the Reds from Villarreal in the summer of 2005, going onto win the FA Cup and League Cup with the club during his time there.

The 31-year-old was named as the Golden Glove winner in the Premier League for three successive seasons between 2005/06 and 2007/08 and was also voted as the Merseysiders’ Player of the Year in 2009/10.

However, when Brendan Rodgers arrived as manager in 2012 the Northern Irishman decided a change was needed between the sticks and 12 months later bought Simon Mignolet from Sunderland for £9m.

Reina’s sale means he finishes his time at the club having played 394 times in all competitions and famously performing penalty shootout heroics in the 2006 FA Cup final and Champions League semi-finals a year later.

The ‘keeper becomes Bayern’s fourth signing of the summer along with Robert Lewandowski, Juan Bernat and Sebastian Rode and will serve as backup to current No.1 Manuel Neuer.
