Liverpool could be about to see another move for a forward fall through, with the Daily Star reporting that the Reds have baulked at the Argentine’s wage demands.

The Paris Saint Germain attacker had emerged as a potential target for Brendan Rodgers, who is still looking to strengthen the club’s attacking options following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and the collapse of a potential deal bringing Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy to Anfield.

Lavezzi was one of the first marquee signings made by PSG following the club’s purchase by wealthy Middle Eastern owners, but has found himself usurped by fellow new boys Lucas Moura, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani in the last couple of seasons.

The report suggests that Liverpool had agreed an £18m fee for Lavezzi, but may not be willing to meet the personal demands of the former Napoli attacker.

This could lead Brendan Rodgers to once again turn his attention elsewhere, with a striker potentially being the final piece of the jigsaw at the end of what has been an incredibly busy summer window from Rodgers and his staff.

With the Premier League season now just around the corner, however, any new signing will have to be arriving quickly if they are going to be able to impact the start of the campaign.
