The Ivory Coast international only just joined Liverpool from Manchester City last summer, but has failed to reach his best form at Anfield with a series of poor individual performances and costly errors at the back.

Once regarded as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League during his time with Arsenal, Toure’s career is now coming to an unspectactular end as he no longer looks capable of playing at the top level.

The 33-year-old could join former Chelsea stars such as Jose Bosingwa and Florent Malouda at Trabzonspor, giving some indication as to where  players are in their careers when they make the move to Turkish football.

Toure certainly looks unlikely to be a regular in Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, with £20m spent on signing Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren from Southampton.
