AC Milan officials have again moved to dispel rumours linking star striker Mario Balotelli with a switch to Liverpool, after reports emerged earlier today that the Anfield club were keeping tabs on the Italian forward.

Several sources, including the Daily Express, reported news of the Reds making a £17.5m offer for the former Manchester City forward, as manager Brendan Rodgers continues his hunt for a world class centre forward to replace the departed Luis Suarez.

However, the Daily Mail believe that there has been no such offer made. They carry quotes from AC Milan club administrator Adriano Galliani, who told Gazzetta dello Sport: “‘At this time we have not received any offer from Liverpool for Balotelli. Hence, there is no negotiation.”

The 24-year-old scored 18 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions last season, as Milan finished a disappointing eighth in Serie A. The controversial forward also netted 30 times for City during a two-and-a-half-year stay in England.

Liverpool have already signed eight players this summer, but are desperate to add a ninth that would compliment their current front-line options of Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert.
