The Italian club are selling Balotelli in order to rebuild their squad following last season’s dismal eighth place finish in Serie A.

It was believed that Milan were looking to make a move for FC Porto’s Jackson Martinez in order to fill the gap to be left by the Italian international.

But according to reports in Italy Milan will now step up their pursuit of the 26-year-old in the coming days after it emerged that he had been made available by new United boss Louis Van Gaal.

The Mexican international started last weekend 2-1 defeat to Swansea City, but was pulled off at half time for the now departed Nani.

However, Milan may have to move fast if they hope to bring him to the San Siro as they have competition in the shape of Juventus and Inter Milan.

Mexico national team boss Miguel Herrera had urged him to join Juventus recently, insisting that they would be a good fit for him.

“I think [Chicharito] needs to leave. I think [Juventus] would be a good option for him,” he said.
