Reports in Spain are continuing to link Arsenal with a surprise swoop for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, with the two teams supposedly in talks over a £28m deal.

The Daily Mirror carries the news from an unnamed source, which suggests that the German international has travelled to North London for talks with Gunners’ officials.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona have also been linked with the 25-year-old, but speculation is rife that Arsene Wenger is preparing to make his move. The Catalans are particularly desperate for reinforcements, as they will not be permitted to sign players in the next two transfer windows.

Earlier this week, the Metro claimed that Arsenal are prepared to use the money from the sale of Lukas Podolski to help fund a move for another marquee signing. Reus would certainly be that, having scored 23 goals in 44 appearances last season.

Despite the interest, there are still plenty of hurdles for Arsenal to overcome, with the club having previously withdrawn their interest when the winger got injured against Armenia in a World Cup warm-up match, signing Alexis Sanchez instead.

Borussia Dortmund are keen to hold onto their prize asset after they lost Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich over the summer. But Reus’ buyout clause, which is £28m, lowers to £20m in a years time, which means Wenger may look to next season to rekindle his long-standing interest in the German winger.
