Upton Park side target Etihad Stadium defender.

West Ham are reportedly readying a move to sign unwanted Man City defender Micah Richards according to The Sun.

The England man, who is valued at around £7m, has been told he can leave the Etihad Stadium and Man City want to see a deal completed this week as Manuel Pellegrini looks to trim his expansive squad.

The 25 year old has become a bit-part player at Man City and a move to Upton Park may well interest the adaptable defender as he seeks to secure regular first team action.

Richards is now into his 11th season in the Man City first team set-up but didn’t even make Pellegrini’s squad for their opening fixture at Newcastle United and has made just nine Premier League starts in the past two seasons.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce will have been happy with his side’s win away at managerless Crystal Palace on the weekend but may well feel his defence could do with added strength in depth and Richards may be a good cut-price option to consider.
