Liverpool could be set to make one final signing this summer as they remain in the hunt for Barcelona and former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Reds have been in the market for new signings in midfield for some time now, and are thought to be making some progress in their efforts to land Song on a season-long loan deal from the Catalan giants.

The Cameroon international has had a difficult time since making the move to the Nou Camp from the Emirates Stadium, finding himself mostly among the substitutes on a regular basis due to some intense competition for places in the squad.

Still, Song had been a key player for Arsenal during his time with the club, and established himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders in his final season with the club in 2011/12.

Despite not enjoying a great deal of first-team action in the last couple of years, Song remains an experienced player who could offer something to this Liverpool squad, with some lingering doubts over the future of Brazilian defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva.

Barcelona are hoping to bring in £10m from Song’s sale, though Liverpool are keen to have him on loan for a season first.
