Man United are reportedly in talks to sign AS Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho according to the Metro.

The 27 year old Portuguese international moved to the Stade Louis II side last summer and proved a successful acquisition but is apparently keen to leave the Ligue 1 side having seen his former team-mate James Rodriguez move to Real Madrid.

Louis van Gaal is looking to find buyers for England man Tom Cleverley and Brazilian Anderson as he prepares to make room for Moutinho.

The former FC Porto man is an excellent distributor and is a player who could offer Man United a real improvement in the centre of the park.

Prior to his move to AS Monaco Moutinho enjoyed a hugely successful three season spell at the Estádio do Dragão, winning three Primeira Liga titles and a Europa League triumph to boot.

Van Gaal has already seemingly sewn up a deal to bring in Moutinho’s team-mate Radamel Falcao and has already spent upwards of £130m to bring in Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria.

Man United have started the current season in a poor fashion securing just two points from their opening three Premier League fixtures whilst also being dumped out of the Capital One Cup at the hands of League One side MK Dons.

Moutinho is valued by this source at a very reasonable £15m.
