Liverpool’s recruitment drive is set to continue into next month as they plot a move to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer, according to the Independent.

Valdes is a free agent after his release from Barcelona this summer and thus can join outside the transfer window.

However, any move is entirely dependent on how he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury that he suffered whilst with the Spanish giants back in March, but if all goes well he could find himself pushing for a first team spot alongside Simon Mignolet.

Brendan Rodgers is interested in adding some competition to his goalkeeping position as current second choice Brad Jones is not pressing the Belgian international for his place.

Valdes had been seen as a reinforcement for French side Monaco until he sustained his injury, and though he may not be match ready until December the Reds will find out next month how well his recovery is going before deciding on whether he would be worth a move.

Liverpool had been keen on making a move for Reading’s Alex McCarthy, but he opted to join Queens Park Rangers instead.
