The Netherlands international has been a rock solid performer for Paul Lambert’s side since joining the club two years ago, and his fine form has not gone unnoticed by bigger sides in recent times.

United were one of a number of clubs rumoured to be looking at him during the recent summer transfer window, while Southampton were also thought to be considering a bid for him.

However, he stayed put at Villa Park for the time being, though he is yet to open talks over signing a new contract, which looks set to make him a free agent next summer.

This will likely spark interest from even more big clubs as the possibility of signing a quality, experienced player such as Vlaar on a free transfer is not one to be passed up.

Villa will be desperately hoping to persuade the 29-year-old to remain at the club, and will likely attempt to persuade him to pen a new deal in the coming months.
