The Premier League champions have another fine keeper waiting in the wings, with Willy Caballero joining the club this summer from Pellegrini’s old side Malaga.

Having impressed as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga during his time in Spain, the Argentine could now be handed an opportunity to take Hart’s place in goal for City, with the England international failing to impress so far this season.

The 27-year-old was badly at fault as he conceded what proved to be the decisive goal to Stoke City in their last league game, which ended in a shock home defeat to the Potters.

Hart allowed a tame shot from Mame Biram Diouf to roll under him all too easily, and this glaring error may now have cost him his place in the starting eleven as Pellegrini ponders shuffling his pack.

Caballero has admitted he is ready to take the chance to become first choice, and has no regrets over snubbing interest from Barcelona to move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

“I talked to Barcelona but the only true interest was from City,” he said.

“When I think of a change in club, City was a very good opportunity for me and my life and career. I worked two-and-a-half years with Pellegrini and it is important for the player to know the staff, the way to work, day-to-day, to prepare for the match and I think he’s a really good coach.”
