The former Red Devils boss spent last week at a FIFA World Cup 2014 debrief among some of the world’s best coaches.

While at the meeting, Ferguson found time to speak to Wales boss Chris Coleman and his assistant Osian Roberts and asked them about the development of Ramsey, a player he was interested in signing before the Welshman moved to Arsenal in 2008.

Roberts said: ”He had a strong interest in how Aaron is doing because he was very close to signing him.

“He probably looks at it now as one that he lost out on and got away from him.

“It was really nice that he spoke about Aaron.”

Although Ramsey struggled in his first few seasons at the Emirates, he has now blossomed into one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League and was named the Gunners player of the season for his excellent performances during their last campaign.

Since they missed out on signing the Welshman, United have struggled to find quality central midfielders to replace the likes of Paul Scholes. Had Ferguson been successful in bringing Ramsey to Old Trafford, things could have been different for the 20 time league champions.
