The Old Trafford side have experienced an up and down time of it since the arrival of new boss Louis van Gaal, Man United winning just two of their first six Premier League fixtures, though van Persie believes it’s only a matter of time before things begin to fall into place.

When asked about Man United’s chances of securing a Champions League berth van Persie stated;

“That’s our aim this year to be sure,” he told reporters. “To be in the top four.

“If you look at our players, fans, squad, stadium, it’s normal to be in the top four. This year we have a great manager, great staff, great fans so, when you look at everything together, it makes it hard [not to be in the Champions League].

“Everything is in place to be up there competing with the very best teams. I think we can do it and we will.”

The 31 year old started the season in relatively average fashion but has netted in his last two appearances.

Having spent upwards of £150m on new signings over the summer one imagines Man United’s owners would demand nothing less than top four finish from Louis van Gaal, and failing to do so could well cost him his job.
