Arsene Wenger has been pursuing the Real Madrid midfielder for some months and that the Arsenal boss has now ‘thrashed’ out a contract with the 27 year old World Cup winner.

Arsenal will now look to complete a deal with Khedira’s employers, with the north London side no doubt hopeful of signing the former Stuttgart man ‘on the cheap’ given his contractual situation.

However despite Khedira being into the final year of his current contract Real Madrid are demanding £15m for the tough tackler, a fairly steep price for a player who can leave the Spanish giants on a free transfer next summer.

Khedira missed much of last term through injury but returned in the latter stages of the campaign to help Carlo Ancelotti’s side secure a historic Champions League triumph, Real Madrid’s tenth European Cup/Champions League triumph, before playing a prominent role in Joachim Low’s World Cup squad over the summer.

Wenger will be more than aware that Khedira would offer more quality in the centre of the park than the likes of Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini.
