The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and some reports have even suggested that he is Louis van Gaal’s number one target in the new year.

Recently, it has been suggested that Roma maybe open to the sale of Strootman but Pallotta has now moved to quash those reports.

“It is just not happening,” Roma’s billionaire owner told BBC Sport at the Leaders in Football Conference.

“I have told the papers that they should stop wasting paper. We don’t have any interest in selling Kevin.”

The Dutch midfielder is currently recovering from a serious knee injury that meant he missed out on this summer’s World Cup.

Palotta also hinted that United had enquired about the availability of Strootman but says that even a £75 million offer wouldn’t be enough for him to part with the 24-year-old.

“Obviously as business people when people call us and say ‘we want your player’ you are going to listen to them,” Pallotta added.

“You have to do that, that is the business side. That doesn’t mean you are going to make a decision that [an offer of] £75m, bang you hit the bid. That is not the way it is going to work, it is not the way it does work with us.”

The Red Devils were also heavily linked with a move for Juventus enforcer Arturo Vidal during the summer transfer window.
