The Portuguese star has been heavily linked with a move back to his former club after recently claiming that he still has an affection for the Red Devils.

However, Real Madrid have told Ronaldo that a transfer will not happen and he can forget about a return to the Theatre of Dreams.

“Of course I would like Cristiano Ronaldo to come to Manchester United,” De Gea told Goal. “But I think it’s difficult.”

Any move for the 29-year-old would be expensive and it is doubtful that United would able to afford a £60 million transfer fee after spending heavily on the likes of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao this summer.

Speaking about United’s two newest recruits, De Gea said that he is impressed by how quickly they have come to terms with life in the Premier League.

The United goalkeeper added: “They have adapted quickly, both scoring and supplying assists. They will make us better as everybody knows how well they did in Spain [with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid respectively]

“I hope they score a lot of goals for Manchester United.”

The Spaniard won a lot of plaudits for his display against Everton at the weekend and the keeper himself has claimed that it was one of the best performances of his career.

“It gives you a lot of confidence. It was an important victory for the team and I will always remember it. It was one of the best [performances] I’ve had and most importantly because it ended in victory.

“There are days when you play a great game but end up not winning. So in that sense, it was a perfect match.”
