Manchester United could be set to make a move for Real Madrid ace Gareth Bale after being told that there is no chance of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the Spanish capital and returning to Old Trafford, the Daily Star reports.

Reports at the beginning of September suggested the forward was interested in a move back to his former club, while several current United players – including goalkeeper David de Gea – have urged the forward to become a Red Devil again.
However, United have now been warned off Ronaldo by the player’s agent Jorge Mendes, who said the 29-year-old will stay with Los Blancos for the rest of his career.
This means that Louis van Gaal has had to change his summer transfer plans and will now target the forward’s teammate Bale instead.
The Wales international has struggled to settle in Carlo Ancelotti’s team so far this season, possibly due to the arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos during the summer.
If Bale’s poor form continues, he may be dropped from the side, which could tempt him into leaving La Liga giants and move back to the Premier League.
With any move for Ronaldo now dead in the water, United officials will monitor the former Tottenham Hotspur star’s situation at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and may make him their main transfer target for next summer.
