The Old Trafford side have long been linked with the 25 year old German international and will look to force his Westfalenstadion side to consider the possibility of selling the World Cup winner with a massive £40m bid for Hummels.

Hummels is ready to commit his future to Borussia Dortmund but is looking to secure a significant pay-rise, which is as yet not forthcoming, leaving Man United no doubt hopeful of snapping up the defensive rock.

It’s claimed that Hummels is after a huge amount on his next contract and Dortmund are stalling, meaning moving to Old Trafford is becoming increasingly likely.

United are thought to be willing to pay up to £40million to get their man.

Having seen veterans Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand leave over the summer and with Phil Jones having been sidelined with injury and Jonny Evans being woeful form Man United boss Louis van Gaal has had to turn to youngsters Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair with varying degrees of success.

Hummels is arguably one of the best central defenders in European football and as such £40m is a very fair price to pay for his services.
