The Man United manager has his sights firmly set on Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira and Barcelona right-back Dani Alves, two players are well into the final year of their respective contracts, as the Premier League side look to strengthen their squad ahead of a bold push for a coveted top four finish.

Khedira, who is currently out with a muscle tear injury, has been strongly linked with interest from both Chelsea and Arsenal though van Gaal will hope to lure the World Cup winner to Old Trafford.

The 27 year old missed most of last season but returned in the latter stages of the campaign to help Carlo Ancelotti’s side to secure a Champions League triumph and then played a prominent role in Joachim Low’s German national team squad over the summer and is a player of real quality.

Van Gaal is ready to offer £12m for the Bernabeu star, a decent price given the former Stuttgart man can leave the Spanish giants on a free transfer next summer.

Despite the good displays put in by Rafael in recent weeks Louis van Gaal is ready to offer £10m for experienced Nou Camp star Dani Alves, who could leave Barcelona on a free transfer deal at the end of the season.

Though by all accounts Barcelona are keent to retain the services of the Brazilian international the former Sevilla man is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal and as such the La Liga table toppers are certainly vulnerable to offers for the attack-minded full-back.

Man United are prepared to pay £10m for the 31 year old, who has won four domestic titles and two Champion League winners medals during his time at the Catalan club.
