Indeed this source claims that Guardiola has already entered into talks with the free agent, this despite having Pepe Reina and Tom Starke acting as back-up options to first choice starter Manuel Neuer.

Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly both also chasing Valdes, who is close to completing a full recovery from a knee injury that has sidelined the Spaniard since March.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has been heavily linked with an interest in Valdes and Simon Mignolet’s run of average form has continued unabated so one can well see why the Northern Irishman would’ve wanted to bring in such an experienced and proven custodian.

Though clearly a move to the Allianz Arena would require Valdes to push past a few very decent keepers in order to secure regular first team action he may feel that his previous relationship with Guardiola would aid in that regard.

Valdes was a virtual ever present at the Nou Camp during Guardiola’s four seasons in charge of the Catalan club, and it should be noted that those four campaigns were ludicrously successful.
