Sneijder, who joined the ranks at Galatasaray in January of 2013, is expected to leave in the winter window amid speculation he is unsettled at the Turkish giants.

United have been watching the player for the better part of a year now, but his agent, Guido Albers, had claimed that the former Inter Milan man was keen on a return to Serie A.

“Galatasaray are having difficulties paying wages. Sneijder is very keen on a return to Italy,” Albers said.

Juventus were believed to have agreed a fee for his services, but reports in Italy today are claiming that they have dropped their interest.

The news leaves United free to sign the 30-year-old, who has a release clause of £16m.

Devils boss Louis Van Gaal is keen on a reunion with his former charge, having managed him for the Dutch national team.
