Poor Xavi seems to be getting grilled about his favourite Englishmen in every interview at the moment…
Jack Wilshere has had plenty of praise over the years, but possibly none more flattering than the compliments he’s just received from Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez.
“There is a lot of [English] talent out there,” the midfielder told Goal. “I think Jack Wilshere is an amazing player, very good.”
Jack Wilshere has recently been played in a deeper lying role for England, which some people have claimed is a waste of his attacking talents. Xavi is living proof that the ability to pass, find space and move with the ball is not “wasted” in defensive positions, it is perhaps even more useful there, where a player is more likely to receive the ball with the space to influence the game.

In contrast to the comments from Spain’s World Cup winner, Wilshere was criticised by England midfield hero Pau Scholes earlier in the year. The former Manchester United player said that he thought Jack Wilshere had not progressed enough since making his breakthough as an 18-year-old.
Xavi also talked about another unlikely hero of his: Matt Le Tissier.
“Matt Le Tissier never left Southampton so I think it was a good thing for him,” the maestro said after being asked about whether he would ever leave the club he’s been at his whole life.
