The highly-rated 22-year-old is not currently a regular in the Barca first-team, despite being hailed as the ‘next Xavi’ after impressing in their La Masia youth ranks.

Both United and Arsenal could do with new signings in midfield as it has become something of a problem position for Louis van Gaal and Arsene Wenger recently, but the agent of the player has warned that they will have to wait until 2016 to sign his client.

Barcelona are set to serve a transfer ban, and will not want to sell any players as they won’t be allowed to sign replacements for them, leaving them potentially short of quality options in the key areas.

Still, Roberto’s potential has put him firmly on United and Arsenal’s radars, while Liverpool are also credited with an interest in another promising young Nou Camp squad player Martin Montoya.

The 23-year-old is another whom the club will fight hard to keep during their transfer ban, though he is believed to be Brendan Rodgers’ ideal signing to replace contract rebel Glen Johnson.
