The 23 year old Swiss international looks set to leave the Allianz Arena after seeing his first team chances limited under Pep Guardiola and a move to Old Trafford is sure to tempt the World Cup star.

Shaqiri bagged a hat-trick for Switzerland against Honduras this summer and is a player with great potential who may well stagnate at Bayern Munich if he remains much longer at the Bavarian club.

Man United are set to pay £18m for the former FC Basel man and such a move may well lead the likes of Ashley Young, Luis Antonio Valencia and Juan Mata having to look for new clubs.

When called upon Shaqiri has proven effective, racking up 15 goals and 16 assists in 65 appearances in his first two seasons in Germany, a stat that is all the more impressive when you consider 34 of those appearances were from the bench.

This season Guardiola has handed Shaqiri just three Bundesliga starts and he was subbed on two of those occasions.

Louis van Gaal may well still have connections at Bayern Munich from his time in charge of the club and he seems set to beat Liverpool in pursuit of Shaqiri according to this source.
