Valdes has been training with the Red Devils as he continues to recover from a cruciate ligament injury, whilst de Gea has been strongly linked with a departure from Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old’s current contract with United expires in 2016 and Real Madrid are said to be interested in the Spain international as a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas.

It was thought that Valdes would be signed to replace de Gea between the sticks at the Theatre of Dreams, but the current No.1 has denied there is any truth in those rumours.

“Yes, my contract runs out in 2016. But they didn’t sign him for that,” the Spaniard was quoted by the Mirror.

“Victor had a difficult injury, he had a bad time and the boss knows him well and has given him the opportunity to recover there.”

Valdes was actually given his FC Barcelona debut by current Man United manager Louis van Gaal and it was this relationship that made people think the 32-year-old would join the Dutchman once again.

However, it seems that de Gea will be staying in Manchester for a little while longer and will not be replaced.
