Mancini Set To Try And Lure Manchester United Striker Robin Van Persie To Inter Milan

Mancini took over from Walter Mazzarri at the San Siro recently.

New Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini is lining up a January raid on the Premier League as he looks to restore the club to former glories, with the Telegraph reporting that the Italian is hoping to sign Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, a player who he has previously tried to sign during his time in charge of Manchester City.

The Dutchman opted for a move to City’s fierce local rivals Manchester United at that time when leaving Arsenal, but it appears that Mancini holds no grudge towards the prolific Dutchman as he looks to make him the first marquee signing of his second spell in charge at the San Siro.

Mancini was brought back to the club to replace Walter Mazzarri after an indifferent start to the season and picked up a useful 1-1 draw in a feisty Milan derby last weekend, before a victory over Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the Europa League yesterday evening.

Van Persie was criticised for his ineffectual display in United’s victory at Arsenal last weekend and has not been at his best this season, although the continuing fitness worries surrounding Radamel Falcao could mean that the Red Devils are loathe to allow one of their three senior strikers to depart the club.
