Old Trafford side edging nearer to stellar centre-back capture.
Man United are reportedly closing in on a January move to sign Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels according to the Daily Star.
The 25 year old German defender is looking increasingly likely to leave the Westfalenstadion after his side’s eighth Bundesliga defeat of the season left Jurgen Klopp’s side rooted to the bottom of the table.
The World Cup winner is said to be frustrated with life at Dortmund and this may well aid Louis van Gaal’s push to sign the rock solid defender.
Though Man United have seen an upturn in form of late it’s still evident that the Old Trafford side would benefit from the addition of a real defensive leader and van Gaal should have requisite funds to meet Borussia Dortmund’s £30m valuation of Hummels.
At times van Gaal has had to throw youngsters Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett in at the deep end, with mixed results, whilst Phil Jones and Jonny Evans have struggled with form and fitness and Man United’s push for a top four finish will be greatly aided by the signing of a superb defender such as Hummels.
