This comes during a time when there are rumours swirling over the Swiss international’s future at the club, with both Liverpool and Arsenal supposedly interested in getting his signature.

The 23-year-old has had to make do with a bit part role at the Bundesliga champions, with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery the first choice wingers at the club.

This has reportedly left the 2014 World Cup star disillusioned after he was talked in to staying at the side in the summer following similar reservations.

When asked about the future of Shaqiri and teammate Pierre-Emile Hjojberg, Guardiola said, “I think they will stay. If they want something then they need to speak to Matthias Sammer.”

Whether the attacking midfielder asks for a transfer is yet to be seen, but both the Gunners and the Reds will be watching closely to see if he does.
