See what the powerful wing-back thinks about the question of who is the best in the world.

Former Real Madrid left-back Roberto Carlos has given his opinion on the debate which divides football – the question of Messi v Ronaldo.

Carlos thinks Ronaldo is the more decisive player, despite Messi’s immense quality.

“Cristiano Ronaldo remains the best in the world, and Messi is doing what others have failed to,” the Brazilian is quoted by Goal as saying.

“He is breaking records, but Cristiano is more decisive than him.”

The two players have been nominated for the FIFA Ballon d’Or alongside Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The award will be handed out in January, so the media have begun asking anyone and everyone who they’d pick.

Ronaldo is currently in Morocco with Madrid preparing to face Argentine side San Lorenzo in the Club World Cup final. The Portuguese star is hoping to add another trophy to his impressive collection, but Carlos has insisted they won’t find it easy against a highly motivated opposition.

“For the South Americans this title has the same importance as the Champions League. Madrid is the best team in the world,” he continued.

The 41-year-old is currently manager of Turkish team Sivvasspor, who have won just twice this season.
